Tipperary Travellers Drive For Hope and Change

Horses are an intrinsic part of a travellers’ life. The prospective changes in the way horse-keeping is to be controlled is causing disquiet among travellers at large. Looking after horses helps with depression with the younger males as well as the more senior among them. The rate of suicide in Travellers far outweighs the settled community by a ratio of 6:1.

The Drive took place on Sunday, July 30, and was in aid of Pieta House. The Travellers meet at the Mitchelstown Road entrance to Cahir and completed the Drive in Inch Field. The field was replete with people wearing white tee-shirts with”Drive for Hope and Change”.

Amongst the speakers that spoke were Brian Dillon, Kerry McCarthy and Love Hate’s “John Connors”.  Travellers-Drive-TIpp-3Travellers-Drive-TIpp-43Travellers-Drive-TIpp-38Travellers-Drive-TIpp-37Travellers-Drive-TIpp-32Travellers-Drive-TIpp-27Travellers-Drive-TIpp-26Travellers-Drive-TIpp-29Travellers-Drive-TIpp-28Travellers-Drive-TIpp-21Travellers-Drive-TIpp-23Travellers-Drive-TIpp-20Travellers-Drive-TIpp-18Travellers-Drive-TIpp-4Travellers-Drive-TIpp-11Travellers-Drive-TIpp-12Travellers-Drive-TIpp-10Travellers-Drive-TIpp-1Travellers-Drive-TIpp-2Travellers-Drive-TIpp-8Travellers-Drive-TIpp-36
